Royal School officially launched Royal Speaking Contest 2023

With two themes of Royal-ers Tell A Tale (Primary School) and Royal-ers Speak Up (Secondary and High School), Royal Speaking Contest 2023 of Royal International Bilingual School (Royal School) is a useful academic playground that helps students confidently demonstrate their talents in public speaking before an audience.

Royal School has officially launched the most anticipated speaking contest in the school year 2023 - 2024: Royal Speaking Contest 2023. Participating in the contest, students will have the opportunity to express themselves and shine their English talents.

Primary School - Royal-ers Tell A Tale 2023: An English speaking playground for students to confidently demonstrate their talents in public speaking

Participating in the contest with the theme of “Royal-ers Tell A Tale 2023”, students in grades 1 - 5 at both campuses of Royal School will tell a tale in English. Through each tale, students will be able to convey its message and express their own perspective on life. In particular, they will have the opportunity to confidently demonstrate their talents in public speaking before an audience.

The contest is divided into 2 competition rounds: the qualifying round will take place in Cambridge ESL scheduled classes during the week of November 13th - November 17th, 2023 and the final round will take place at the auditorium on December 01st, 2023. Students are encouraged to participate in the contest and will need to register for the event before November 9th, 2023.

Contest regulations:

* Qualifying round

  • Each student can choose 1 story from ‘Raz Kids’ they have read to tell a tale.
  • Students should focus on and talk about the name of the story and what the story is about.
  • Presentations will be limited to 2 minutes per student.
  • The presentations will take place in Cambridge ESL scheduled classes during the week of November 13th - November 17th, 2023.
  • The 6 best students from each grade will be selected to participate in the final round. The list of students selected for the final round will be announced on November 24th, 2023.
  • Students will be graded based on the following specific criteria: presentation skills, pronunciation skills, knowledge of the content, originality and creativity.

* Final round

  • Students participating in the final round will present their tale from the previous round.
  • Students should focus on and talk about the name of the story, what the story is about, and what they learned from the story.
  • Contest date: grade 1 and 2 students will participate in the final round on December 01st, 2023 and grade 3, 4 and 5 students will participate in the final round on December 01st, 2023.
  • The result of the final round will be announced on December 04th, 2023.

Students will be graded based on the following specific criteria: presentation skills, topic-related speech, knowledge of the content, and critical thinking. The 3 best students with the highest scores from each group will be awarded Champion Award, Runner-up Award, and Prospect Award respectively.

Secondary and High School - Royal-ers Speak Up 2023: An exciting speaking arena for young talents

Participating in the contest with the theme of “Royal-ers Speak Up 2023”, students in grades 6 - 12 at both campuses of Royal School will have the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and rhetorical skills.

The contest is divided into 2 competition rounds: the qualifying round will take place in Cambridge ESL scheduled classes during the week of November 13th - November 17th, 2023 and the final round will take place at the auditorium on November 27th, 2023. Students are encouraged to participate in the contest and will need to register for the event before November 9th, 2023.

Contest regulations:

* Qualifying round

Each student can choose a topic from the suggested list to participate in the contest as follows:

Bilingual classes:

  • Grades 6 and 7: City and countryside life. What would you choose and why?
  • Grade 8: Should zoos be banned, agree or disagree?
  • Grades 9 and 10: Fast food should be banned, agree or disagree?
  • Grades 11 and 12: Describe what you would do if you won a million dollars.

Integrated classes:

  • Grades 6,7 and 9: Describing your hometown and its special features.
  • Grade 8: Why are you learning English? What are some challenges you have had or any fun moments you have had?
  • Grade 10: What is your dream job, and how can what you have learned in school help you get that dream job?
  • Grades 11 and 12: Describe the advantages and disadvantages of reading and watching the news. 

Each registered student will present a topic in class to participate in the contest. Presentations will be limited to 2 minutes per student. The presentations will take place in Cambridge ESL scheduled classes during the week of November 13th, 2023 - November 17th, 2023. The 3 best students from each grade will be selected to participate in the final round. The list of students selected for the final round will be announced on November 22nd, 2023.

Students will be graded based on the following specific criteria: presentation skills, pronunciation skills, knowledge of the content, originality and creativity.

* Final round

  • Students participating in the final round will present one topic assigned randomly by the judges and answer some questions.
  • The final round topics include: In your own words, what does it mean to be a Global Citizen?; What are the key characteristics of a Global Citizen?; and What are the key characteristics of a Global Citizen?
  • The estimated schedule for the final round is November 27th, 2023.
  • The result of the final round will be announced on December 04th, 2023.

Students will be graded based on the following specific criteria: presentation skills, topic-related speech, knowledge of the content, and critical thinking. The 3 best students with the highest scores from each group will be awarded Champion Award, Runner-up Award, and Prospect Award respectively.
