Developing comprehensive language skills
Royal Speaking Contest is an annual event held at Royal School to promote students’ English proficiency and communication skills. In the 2025-2026 academic year, the contest features two main divisions: Primary (Royalers Tell A Tale 2025) and Secondary and High School (Royal TED Talks 2025: My Vietnam - My Voice). Every aspect of the competition, from criteria and regulations to content, is thoughtfully designed to suit each age group and learning level. Through this platform, students not only have the opportunity to challenge themselves and showcase their talent and confidence in public speaking but also to express their ideas fluently and naturally before an audience.

Students with a passion for English can take part in the contest to further enhance their language abilities and develop essential communication skills.
Throughout the competition, students have the opportunity to learn, exchange ideas and engage in discussions on current global issues with their peers and teachers. With guidance and encouragement from their mentors, they gain valuable insights, expand their English vocabulary and strengthen their language proficiency. These experiences help students further develop their communication skills, particularly in using English confidently and creatively in both academic and real-world contexts.

Students can gain a wealth of new knowledge and experiences throughout the competition.
In addition to fostering students’ critical thinking and presentation skills, the competition also cultivates a sense of community, teamwork and mutual support throughout the learning process. Furthermore, the research involved in preparing for the contest equips students with valuable skills in information searching, analysis and effective use of learning resources.
Contest details and regulations
To create an engaging and inspiring platform, the International Curriculum Training Centre (ICTC) of Royal School serves as the leading organiser and academic coordinator of the Royal Speaking Contest 2025.
All Royal School students from both Phu My Hung Campus and Phu Lam Campus are eligible to participate. The schedule for each stage of the contest is as follows:
For the Preliminary Round, Primary students will retell one of their favourite stories, ensuring they include the main elements such as the title, storyline and moral, with each presentation lasting no longer than two minutes. Meanwhile, Secondary and High School students will present their viewpoints on assigned topics relevant to their grade level, with each presentation lasting up to three minutes. The topics are specifically designed for both the Bilingual and Integrated programmes. Judging for this round will be conducted by English teachers and teaching assistants, who will select the most outstanding students based on established marking criteria to advance to the next stage of the competition.

English teachers and classroom teaching assistants will serve as the judges for the Preliminary Round.
For the Final Round, Primary students will retell their chosen stories, adding reflections on the meaning and lessons learnt. Meanwhile, Secondary and High School students will deliver a TED Talk on a topic randomly selected by the organisers under the theme “My Vietnam - My Voice”, followed by a Q&A session where they respond to questions from the judging panel.

In the Final Round, Secondary and High School students will face the challenge of answering critical questions from the judging panel.
Evaluation criteria and awards
For the Preliminary Round, each participant will be evaluated on a 20-point scale, equally divided among four criteria: presentation skills, pronunciation, content understanding and creativity. In the Final Round, the total score remains 20 points, with assessment focused on presentation skills, relevance to the topic, content understanding and critical thinking.
In terms of awards, the Preliminary Round will recognise the Top 3 performers in each class. For the Final Round, the Primary Division will present three prizes (First, Second and Third). At Phu My Hung Campus, six prizes will be awarded - First, Second and Third for both Grades 6-9 and Grades 10-12. At Phu Lam Campus, six prizes will also be presented - First, Second and Third for both Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-10.
To deliver their best performance, students are encouraged to prepare creatively, making use of costumes or props (if applicable) to make their presentations more engaging and visually appealing. They may also consult their teachers for support with visuals or presentation slides.

Students may prepare additional props or presentation slides to make their performances more engaging and persuasive.
At Royal School, the support and presence of parents serve as a great source of encouragement, inspiring students to perform with confidence and deliver their best in every competition. Therefore, for this year’s Final Round of the Royal Speaking Contest, the school warmly encourages parents to join and cheer for the participants.
